Many artists in these regions have relied on their artistic practice to recover from their losses and help restore the community around them. The exhibition features artists and writers who work in bronze, photography, ceramics, printmaking, new media, poetry, and prose to express their countless stories of loss, gratitude, and resiliency that have emerged in the year since the fires.

The Petaluma Arts Center commemorates the fateful events of last year with Renewal through Art, an exhibition of works by artists affected by the fires. On display September 29—November 17, this exhibition is a reverent reflection of the fires of 2017 and a celebration of the revitalizing power of art. Artists from both Napa and Sonoma counties will be featured. Works were created specifically as a response to the fires, including some art that integrates rescued and reclaimed fire artifacts. These fascinating pieces demonstrate the capacity of art to bring forth the resiliency of the human spirit in the face of catastrophe.
